Well here's my resolution to post more on my blog. My posts have not come that frequently. This year that is going to change. I have been working on an iPhone App and that has been taking a lot of time. Objective-C is not that easy. I will be sharing more about that on my blog dedicated to learning about iPhone App programming called whydoesntitwork I will be sharing tips and resources for people who would like to learn about iPhone programming and what's involved in creating an App.

You maybe surprised to know that it's a tiny Linux computer without a keyboard but a touchscreen called It can play music from Pandora and also let you keep up with David Letterman's top 10 lists. Chumby works by connecting to the Chumby Network via WiFi. It plays widgets, which you select via a webpage on your computer. Once everything is setup which only takes about 10 minutes at the most, you just sit back and watch all the cool items it can display. Mine displays Flickr photos, Facebook updates, webcams from two different aquariums, Gizmodo, Engadget, Slashdot, Make magazine, and bunch more.

Make the pinwheel stop!

We all want our computer to work optimally. One way to do this, especially in older machines, is by increasing the amount of RAM your computer has. RAM is the temporary storage used by your machine. If you have been experiencing the multi-color pinwheel a lot - it's time for a RAM upgrade.

More RAM equals better and therefore faster performance. If you are a person using Photoshop the images can be rendered faster by a computer which has more RAM. The same holds true if you do video editing or digital photography.

I recommend to my clients that they get as much RAM as they can afford. The best performance will come if you can put the maximum amount of memory in the computer that it can handle. This maximum threshold varies from computer to computer. By adding more RAM you can increase the lifespan of your computer.

You also want to make sure you are getting your RAM from a reputable source. Inferior RAM can cause numerous problems including: not being able to start the computer and also data corruption. See my previous blog entry on backups.

Backup Your Data!

What could be worse than losing your data? Not being able to recover it. I mean how long would it take to re-create your wedding photos? Well you only had them stored on your hard drive and you would not want to take the time to implement a backup solution would you?

Various backup solutions exist, but the best one is the one that you will use. Actually, it is best to have 2 backups, one off-site.

I recommend SuperDuper! by Shirt Pocket. The great part about it is that you can set it to automatically backup at a pre-determined interval.
